Onyx Storm, a Thoroughbred gelding, was part of the trio of yearlings rescued from a kill pen after their recent purchaser failed to pay—leaving all three abandoned and without a safety net. Known simply as “Ed” before receiving his Jockey Club name, he was one of the lucky ones to be pulled in time and brought into our Racing to Rescue program.
After his rescue, Onyx Storm entered race training at WinStar, where he showed willingness and heart but ultimately didn’t progress to the racetrack. He returned to the farm this summer to let down, relax, and simply learn how to be a horse again.
Now fully settled and enjoying his downtime, Onyx Storm is ready for his next chapter. He is available for adoption through our program and would make a wonderful partner for someone looking to give a kind, athletic young gelding a bright future beyond racing.
