Aftercare

At Resolute Racing, our commitment to the Thoroughbred extends far beyond the winner’s circle. We believe that every horse deserves a safe, dignified, and meaningful life after their racing or breeding career concludes. Our dedication to aftercare is deeply rooted in compassion, responsibility, and respect for the athletes who give so much of themselves to the sport.

Our farm is home to a dedicated aftercare and riding division, where many of our retired racehorses continue to thrive. John and Chelsey enjoy spending time riding, and several of our Thoroughbreds have found new purpose in our Pony Barn — a space shared with a few Quarter Horses and other breeds who serve as trail and companion horses. It’s a place that embodies the heart of what we believe in: giving every horse, no matter their background, a meaningful second chapter.

A Promise Beyond the Track

Resolute has allocated dedicated acreage on our Kentucky farm exclusively for the care and rehabilitation of Thoroughbreds transitioning out of racing. This sanctuary space allows us to directly welcome retired or at-risk horses, providing them with the time, attention, and resources they need to recover, retrain, or simply enjoy a well-earned retirement. Many of these horses can go on to become cherished companions, lesson horses, or competitive sport horses in disciplines such as eventing, dressage, and show jumping — proving that a Thoroughbred’s story doesn’t end at the finish line.

The Resolute Foundation

To further our mission, we established our own non-profit organization to help offset the ongoing costs associated with caring for these horses and to expand our reach within the aftercare community. Through the foundation, we work to raise awareness and funding for Thoroughbred welfare, support emergency rescue efforts, and advocate for responsible ownership at every stage of a horse’s life.

Supporting Industry Leaders in Aftercare

In addition to our own efforts, Resolute Racing proudly supports a range of accredited aftercare organizations that specialize in retraining and rehoming off-the-track Thoroughbreds (OTTBs). These include groups such as the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (TAA), New Vocations, Second Stride, and Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) — each of which plays a vital role in ensuring that former racehorses are given the opportunity to transition successfully into new homes and careers. We are honored to contribute to their missions and to collaborate with like-minded advocates who share our vision of lifelong care for these incredible animals.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Every horse in our program has a plan for life beyond the track. Some remain on our farm in Kentucky, where they transition into second careers or enjoy well-deserved retirement. Others are placed through trusted aftercare partners who specialize in retraining off-the-track Thoroughbreds for new disciplines such as eventing, show jumping, or trail riding. Our priority is always to ensure that each horse lands in a safe, supportive environment suited to their temperament and ability.

  • Yes. Part of our aftercare mission includes offering a haven for at-risk Thoroughbreds regardless of their background. We’ve dedicated acreage on the farm specifically for rehabilitation and long-term placement, and through our non-profit foundation, we assist in covering medical, feed, and retraining expenses for horses in need. When possible, we also collaborate with established rescues and placement organizations to find permanent homes for these horses.

  • That’s a common misconception — and one we’re passionate about changing. While there was once a time when Thoroughbred aftercare lacked structure, today there’s an extensive network of accredited programs, dedicated owners, and responsible breeders working to ensure that horses are cared for long after racing. At Resolute, we’re proud to be part of that movement. Every horse in our program — and many beyond it — is given a thoughtful transition plan, and we support national organizations that help thousands of Thoroughbreds successfully move into new homes and careers each year.
