Racing to Rescue
Racing to Rescue, founded by John, Chelsey, and Sarah Stewart of Resolute Racing, is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to transforming the future of equine aftercare. Based in the heart of Kentucky’s racing community, the organization provides safe landing, professional rehabilitation, and responsible rehoming for horses in need—from retired Thoroughbreds to at-risk equines facing uncertain futures.
A New Beginning
Grounded in accountability, compassion, and long-term stewardship, Racing to Rescue is an equine aftercare and horse rescue organization dedicated to protecting the welfare of horses beyond their working or competitive careers. The organization operates on the belief that participation in the racing and broader equine industries carries an enduring responsibility that extends well beyond a horse’s active years.
Through advocacy, education, and strategic partnerships, Racing to Rescue works to bridge the gap between equine sports, ownership, and lifelong horse welfare. By promoting ethical ownership, transparency, and sustainable aftercare practices, the organization helps foster a culture in which every horse—regardless of discipline, background, or past use—has access to a safe, secure future.
Racing to Rescue intervenes in at-risk situations to provide horses with a safe haven where they receive individualized, comprehensive care focused on health, soundness, rehabilitation, and overall quality of life. Each horse is given the time and support necessary to heal both physically and emotionally, followed by thoughtful retraining, responsible placement, and long-term support tailored to their needs.
Beyond rescue alone, Racing to Rescue remains committed to lifelong accountability and humane treatment. Through continued advocacy, education, and sustainable outcomes, the organization ensures that every horse entrusted to its care is afforded a future defined by dignity, safety, and purpose.
Our Mission
Racing to Rescue exists to safeguard the futures of horses at risk by providing structured rescue, professional rehabilitation, and responsible rehoming. Our work is rooted in accountability—ensuring that horses receive appropriate care, training, and long-term placement that prioritizes their safety, soundness, and quality of life.
We operate with the belief that involvement in the equine industry carries an ongoing responsibility beyond performance or circumstance. Through hands-on intervention and informed placement, Racing to Rescue supports sustainable outcomes for horses while reinforcing ethical standards and long-term stewardship within the racing and broader equine communities.
In addition to direct care, we are committed to education and advocacy that promote transparency, responsible ownership, and lifelong welfare. By bridging rescue efforts with industry awareness, Racing to Rescue works to ensure that every horse has the opportunity for stability, dignity, and a future defined by thoughtful, committed care.
At Racing to Rescue, our mission is to rescue horses, with an emphasis on thoroughbreds, from kill lots and holding pens, providing them with a second chance at life. We are dedicated to rehabilitating these horses, addressing their physical and emotional needs, and finding them loving, approved homes where they can flourish.
Your donation directly supports lifesaving efforts—covering costs such as emergency rescue, veterinary care, rehabilitation, feed, shelter, and transportation. Every contribution helps us give these deserving horses a safe future and a new beginning.
